Partner-Seller Alignment

Partner-Seller Alignment

Noun

Partner-seller alignment measures how well a partner’s sales team and a vendor’s internal sales team coordinate to sell to shared customers. This includes agreeing on target accounts, how to explain the value of their combined offerings, who handles each part of the sales process and what happens next. The goal is to help both teams work together effectively without competing for the same opportunities or confusing potential buyers.

Simply agreeing on a partnership strategy at the executive level doesn’t mean sales teams are aligned in practice. Organizations typically build partner-seller alignment by identifying overlapping accounts, agreeing on responsibilities, aligning sales incentives and setting clear rules for working together on deals. Teams can assess alignment by reviewing joint account plans and looking at how sellers collaborate on active opportunities.

In B2B SaaS, partner-seller alignment helps partner and internal sales teams coordinate their efforts on shared opportunities. When teams are aligned, they can avoid duplicating work, draw on each other’s expertise and explain more clearly how their products and services work together.

Example:

Quorivey Software works with a consulting partner to sell its customer data platform to mid-sized retailers. The two sales teams agree on which accounts to pursue, who will lead each sales conversation and how to present the combined offering, helping them avoid duplicate outreach and give prospects consistent information.
