Why I Started For Female Founders and Why it Matters for Partnerships in 2024

Sarah Bundy shares her impetus for starting For Female Founders in our latest guest post. Plus, she discusses why diverse talent in partnerships benefit everyone.

When I first started on my entrepreneurial journey as a six month pregnant 27-year-old, I encountered numerous hurdles that seemed to be higher and more difficult to overcome simply because I was not a man.

As a female founder, I realized that many of the challenges I faced were not unique to me. They were shared by countless other working women trying to make their mark in the business world.

This realization was the catalyst for creating For Female Founders, a brand and community dedicated to empowering and supporting female entrepreneurs at every stage of their journey. In 2024 the partnership and digital marketing space is still in dire need of initiatives that support female leaders — and we’re going to talk about why.

The genesis of For Female Founders

Starting For Female Founders was born out of a passion and a keen awareness of the gender disparities in the entrepreneurial ecosystem — both back when I started All Inclusive Marketing and still today.

According to the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, “Half of women business owners (51%) surveyed reported facing challenges when trying to access financing for their businesses”.

Women often face unique challenges such as limited access to funding — women-founded startups received less than two percent of VC funding in Europe and the US — lack of mentorship and an underrepresentation in various industries, especially in leadership roles. Of C-suite leaders, women represent approximately one in four, and women of color just one in 16, per McKinsey’s Women in the Workplace report.

These obstacles can stifle innovation and prevent talented women from realizing their full potential while also preventing organizations from innovation that could be possible if they introduced more diverse perspectives and skill sets into their talent pool. I wanted to create a space where female founders could find the resources, support and community they need to thrive, not just survive.

For Female Founders is more than just a networking and knowledge-sharing platform; it's a comprehensive support system designed to address the specific needs of female entrepreneurs. We provide access to funding opportunities, mentorship, educational resources and a robust network of like-minded women who are all striving for success.

While our primary focus remains on supporting female entrepreneurs, we recognize that true progress requires an intersectional approach. It is essential to acknowledge and uplift marginalized groups who are often excluded from the conversation. By creating equity and space for these diverse voices, we aim to ensure that the benefits of collaboration and innovation are accessible to everyone, not just a select few.

The importance of diversity in partnerships

The business landscape is evolving quickly and partnerships are becoming increasingly essential for success. In 2024 and going into the future, the ability to form strategic alliances and collaborations can make or break a business. Partnerships provide access to new markets, technologies and expertise that can accelerate growth and innovation. They also offer a way to share risks and resources, which is particularly important for startups and small businesses.

However, women often find themselves at a disadvantage when it comes to accessing these opportunities. This is where For Female Founders comes in. By focusing on a variety of partnerships across many different industries, there is opportunity to level the playing field for ambitious women ready to win.

By featuring For Female Founders, PartnerStack is amplifying our mission and helping to create more opportunities for women in the partnerships space. This collaboration not only highlights the work we are doing but also underscores the need for more inclusive and supportive environments for female entrepreneurs, influencers and innovators.

Moreover, PartnerStack's commitment to supporting diversity and inclusion aligns perfectly with our mission. By working together, we can create a more equitable and supportive environment for female entrepreneurs and business leaders alike. This collaboration also serves as a powerful example of how partnerships can drive positive change and promote diversity in the business world, resulting in the benefits as outlined below.

Why partnerships needs For Female Founders in 2024 and beyond

The partnerships space is still in need of initiatives like For Female Founders for several reasons:

  • Diversity drives innovation: Research has shown that diverse teams are more innovative and perform better financially. Supporting female entrepreneurs and business leaders and promoting diversity in the partnerships space drives innovation and creates more successful businesses and a stronger partnerships ecosystem
  • Closing the gender gap: The gender gap in entrepreneurship is still a significant issue. Women are underrepresented in many industries and often face greater challenges in securing funding and resources. For Female Founders is working to close this gap by providing women with the support they need to succeed.
  • Creating role models: Visibility is essential for inspiring the next generation of female entrepreneurs. Showcasing successful female founders and their achievements, creates role models for young women and encourages more women to pursue leadership and entrepreneurship.
  • Building a supportive ecosystem: Entrepreneurship can be a lonely journey, but it doesn't have to be. For Female Founders creates a supportive and collaborative ecosystem where women can find the resources, support, and community they need to thrive.
  • Driving economic growth: Supporting female entrepreneurs is not just a social good; it's also an economic imperative. Women-owned businesses contribute significantly to the economy —and their buying decisions even more so — and supporting their growth drives economic development.
